The cardiology dept at SRH is state of the art facility with the latest machines and technology present along with our experienced cardiologists and support staff. All the beds have a State-of-the-Art cardiac monitoring system all interconnected to a central monitoring unit capable of multiple functions including storing and retrieving patients’ vital data. Majority of patients are with acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina and congestive heart failure. Patients with lethal arrhythmias, hypertensive emergencies, pericardial diseases and infective endocarditic comprise a minority of admission to this ward

  • The Critical Care Unit (CCU) also caters to post cardiac and coronary catheterization.
  • A stand-by 2D Echo machine and an ABG (Arterial Blood Gas) is available in the unit for use when required.
  • There are facilities for temporary pacing and invasive homodynamic monitoring.

Cardiology

Cardiology is a branch in medicine which deals with diseases of heart. Heart is a vital organ for survival. It is important for maintaining blood supply to various parts of body. Any abnormality in heart can take our life. The common diseases include heart block (in which heart is not able to contract at a normal rate that is 75/min due to defect in conductive system of heart), myocardial infarction (in which there is blockage of one of the arteries supplying heart. This compromises blood flow to heart as a result heart cannot contract enough to pump the blood) or there may be tumors of the heart like atria maxima or heart failure which may be due to increase demand as in anemia (high output cardiac failure) or decrease supply due to myocardial infarction (low output cardiac failure).

Cardiology Department

The Cardiology Department provides the best of services in terms of accurate diagnosis and professional treatment. The experienced team of doctors specializes in cardiac by-pass surgery, minimally invasive surgery, interventional cardiology, and non-invasive cardiology. We also provide ambulatory systems for emergencies along with non-invasive image processing, echocardiography, stress tests, cardiovascular CT’s and thallium heart mapping among many others.

Cardiac cath lab is currently the hub of activity in any cardiac unit considering the increasing need for angiography/percutaneous techniques like coronary angioplasty (ballooning). The staffs are well qualified and are leaders in their respective fields.

Angioplasty (or Balloon angioplasty)

Angioplasty (or Balloon angioplasty) is an endovascular procedure to widen narrowed or obstructed arteries or veins, typically to treat arterial atherosclerosis. An empty, collapsed balloon, known as a balloon catheter, is passed over a wire into the narrowed locations and then inflated to a fixed size. The balloon forces expansion of the stenosis (narrowing) within the vessel and the surrounding muscular wall, opening up the blood vessel for improved flow, and the balloon is then deflated and withdrawn. A stent may or may not be inserted at the time of ballooning to ensure the vessel remains open.
